Blank Matrix Transmittal

I have been having issues with blank Matrix transmittal's being issued to our subcontractors, I understand that if an item has been edited that would cause the matrix to be issued.

The problem is the actual transmittal sheet does not advise on why it has issued. (edited document etc)

Viewpoint cannot offer a solution other than to post it on here ? Surely this isnt right ?

I have brought this up with various VP representatives and support people over the past 4 years and I never get a satisfactory answer. They just defend it saying "it's operating as designed" but they can't give any defence as to why it would be designed that way. They say any edit with trigger that document to be included in a MT, but when the MT server checks for a change in revision, it doesn't find any, so doesn't include it as a 'Difference'. YET it will still create a blank revision of the MT and put all the Recipients in the 'Recipients' tab even though no-one was notified because it was empty!

Not only this, but this also makes the 'Linked Items' section of a document's Properties completely useless because instead of seeing the potentially one or two linked items you want to see, they get missed in a sea of links to empty Matrix Transmittals generated every day, where it wasn't picked up as a 'Difference' in most of them.

Often I've wanted an MT to Transmit documents that have changed their Primary File or have moved to a new Workflow node, but you can't do that - the best you can do is have two MTs, one including hidden items and one not, but then that relies on all workflows hiding everything all the time until the end. Not very intuitive, flexible or sensible.

The Matrix Transmittal system needs a complete overhaul, to be more 'Difference' based (the aggregation of everything list being the default, in my experience, helps absolutely nobody on the sending or receiving end) and the type of Difference ought to be configurable - i.e. trigger on a selection of revision change, Primary/Secondary file change, Workflow node change (AND TO WHICH NODE).

    Viewpoint,

This is an ongoing issue and is causing confusion. Could either the front end of the matirx be updated to show edited items etc

    OR

The back end fucntionality of the matrix updated to allow us to select what functions (Add, Revise, edit) etc would trigger a revision to the transmittal
