There is little point in Distribution and Security Groups being completely separate. Many times I add, for instance, a Container for letters to and from a certain company, and want to be able to set the Permissions to the Distribution Group set up for that company. But I can't unless I ALSO set up a Security Group for that company aswell, meaning anyone added or removed has to be done twice. It would be much more logical to be able to add Distribution Groups to permissions as these almost always go hand-in-hand.
There are times when Security and Distribution Groups don't go hand-in-hand, for instance we have Security Groups for all Design Consultants and one for Subcontractors, since access permissions can often be general to all people working for companies in either of those two groups. But Distribution Groups often form a subset of these and hence are worthwhile being treated as a subset of these Security Groups and almost being a 'sub-level' to the Security Group that they, or their organisations, belong in.
But instead of Distribution Groups being able to be treated as a subset of a Security Group, they're completely separate.
Workable around, but a bit messy and cumbersome.
