For years I have had Status lists set up for various types of document where the choices applicable are based on parts of the document naming convention, e.g. depending on parts of the document type, and/or series and/or originator/recipient, etc.
It would be good to be able to specify text filters on either the whole document number OR specific components of the naming convention against Status choices such that those choices appear in the dropdown menu of the document metadata Edit screen, depending on what has been chosen in the Naming Convention components.
For example, a status for RFIs or other client-reviewable items that says "FOR CLIENT REVIEW" could be stated to automatically apply to any document uploaded that has the client's company code in the Recipient "field" (component) of the document number. Instead, this kind of Status has to be set manually and applied to every Container where it might be applicable, manually. Also it has to be manually picked when such a document is uploaded.
Given that Workflows are status/container-driven, this situation is a very long-winded way of triggering a logic-based action.
