Currently sorting drawings by number is no longer very helpful, as the sort function works left to right. This means, that drawing series are often not grouped together. Adding a function that separates the BIM number in to constituent parts, will allow for sorting by the element that is most useful. As a minimum, an 'advanced' sort function that sorts by the final 6-8 digit unique number would be useful.
Many design practises embed an RICS drawing number model into their final number, or their own series reference. Being able to sort by this number, allows for key elements of a project to be navigated and understood much more quickly and easily.
I have attached a spreadsheet with a sheet which has drawing references sorted as per the only current available 4P sort, and a second sheet with the 'advanced' sort. A quick comparison of the sheets shows how the advanced sort makes the information much easier to digest.

This is an essential update. I am currently updating the MIDP on a project to highlight the date that information has been uploaded to Viewpoint and because we can no longer effectively sort by drawing number this is making the task a much longer process as the drawings are not in numerical order.
I have seen that other CDEs now have the ability to sort by each individual field within the document number. This would save people an awful lot of time in finding drawings.
