Sometimes a Static Virtual Container is used to keep a log of revisions of documents that were (or should have been) issued for a Tender or to baseline the status of documents at Contract Award.
"Build New Revision" always checks for the Latest revision and gives the opportunity to add this into the new revision of the Virtual Container. But sometimes, the new revision of the VC needs to be made because a later, but not necessarily the LATEST revision was the one that should have been issued at Tender (or is what is relevant to a particular work package) or documents that formed part of the Contract were (as they almost always are) sent via a Dropbox or WeTransfer link from the Client to the QS/Estimating/Commercial departments who (it seems in every company) don't bother to forward them on to Document Controller for a month or two.
When we finally get access to the proper baseline revisions, it would be good to be able to pick which revision to build the new revision of the VC to.
I know that for the case of one or two, here or there, we could set the interim revision as current temporarily and then build the revision, but that's very cumbersome and long-winded if it's for more than a handful, plus you then have to remember to go and make the latest one current again.
You have to remember that before Contract Award, very often works packages are already being sent to price to subcontractors, and again QSs tend to prefer Dropbox/WeTransfer and/or they're doing this before anyone asks Document Control to set the job up on Viewpoint in the first place or we don't even know who the users are going to be.
