As per IS0 19650 - Information container identification (Naming Convention), the unique ID for project file information within a CDE should be defined using several fields. These are set up at Enterprise level and filtered by project and configured as per our client EIR and the BEP project by project.
In this instance we have requirements in which we have to use a decimal point within one of the fields and have discovered that this is not possible. We have been informed by support that a decimal point reflects a file type being uploaded e.g .pdf and will not allow the use of a decimal point and to simply change this to another character.
In theory this is the easiest option however upon reflection is not simply a case of changing a character.
The requirements state that information has to be published to AIM CDE which is not Viewpoint and changing the character will not resolve the issue in full. In order to publish information to AIM CDE it must follow the client requirements and will create a tremendous amount of work because Viewpoint can't cater for a decimal point within the naming convention.
Upon speaking to support it has been made clear that this is not an exclusive problem to us, and have had this raised previously by other parties. I am sure this is a common issue that needs to be addressed.
The naming convention should allow for a decimal point to be used within fixed or free text fields.
