i have been creating a final team notification for a few workflows, and have noticed that it would not validate and "save" the notification changes with only a distribution group as the recipients, i would have to add a security group and/or a single user for it to save and close the notification settings

The ability to add a Distribution Group as a sole recipient on a Notification Node does exist and you shouldn't need to add further recipients/security groups - if this is the case for you, please contact our Support Team.
