Copy container structure

For those who have long-winded filing structures, which are the same for dozens of work packages/sub-contractors, it would be very beneficial to copy sub-folder structures instead of recreating them one by one.

Can we have an update on this?

@Andrew Brennan further to your response back in 2017 – this is more Virtual Container for me.

Has this been actioned yet?  I don't have the time to keep creating the same containers over and over and over and over and over and .......... (it's a right ballache!)

Absolutely, this needs to be done.  I am just replicating the exact same folder structure multiple time,  Viewpoint is making this very clunky and time consuming.

I have just downloaded the VfP app as suggested by Andrew and this has allowed me to quickly create the folder structure I wanted on my windows desktop and then copy and paste it into the VfP app which then instantly updates the folder structure on Viewpoint for Projects. Problem solved for me... Only downside is that, as far as I know, it doesn't copy the settings that are saved onto the folders, you have to then configure the folders on Viewpoint to adjust the settings.

agreed! This would save so much time if you were able to copy your folder structures.

I have also supported to the suggestion, but also I recommend the container re-location function in Viewpoint

We're interested in your feedback regarding the ability to do this in the VfP Desktop App - where you can drag and drop container structures and copy/paste folders directly into VfP from Windows 8+. We've also made performance improvements to Templates which you already know help you easily replicate a finalised structure with security - but I appreciate that this suggestion is related to the on-the-fly nature of structure building.

With the 1192 directive towards a simpler folder structure and more metadata contained within the document itself, are you building much smaller Document Container structures now? Has this suggestion shifted towards the need to add flexibility to Virtual Container creation to package up your information? Let us know your thoughts...

    Kind regards,

    Andrew

I also think it would be very useful to be able to paste a container structure as a child of another container.

Please Please Please - I am fed up typing the same structure every time I have to create a new folder

Further to my previous post....here is the online support page regarding templates.  They need to be switched on before you can use them.

I think we have already achieved this by creating a folder structure with empty folders and saving that structure as a template.  That template is then imported for new projects.

I support to have such a feature in V4P. Same functionality as in MS Explorer (both copy and move folder structures)

This would be an extremely useful addition as am constantly having to set up repeating suites of folders, which is a time consuming task.

Agreed. So many times people have spent alot of time on a good structure and we cant copy it.

I think when copying a container folder structure you should also have the ability to copy with existing security which would be the default, however copy without security and then it prompting you to assign permissions prior to creating the folder structure.

How about the ability to export to excel, edit the contrainer structure and then re-import back in.  We have this feature in Windows Explorer and Field View has it for the generation of the Location structure.

agreed. It would be extremely beneficial to be ale to copy folder structures or template them. Having to create subprojects as a work around looks sloppy and cumbersome
