In the construction world many companies prefer to manage documentation by giving each document a unique document/drawing number followed by a Title as stated on the drawing block/document etc.
What I have consistently found that because it requests Name and Description in 4Ps - we don't get a Document/Drawing number or an accurate Specific Title. On many instances what users have typed into 4ps is not easily identifiable on the actual document.
i.e if it was a Mechanical Drawing - for the name we might get 'Mechanical Drawing Ground Floor' and the description ' GF Ventilation'. On the drawing there my be an Drawing Number and the title is also different.
The name (as above) can be long and ineffective as it will not give the details that a number could do in a short and as we can abbreviate to represent the package, area, type, sequence etc. I.e. if I was to number the above it would be XXXXX(package number)-ME-GA-DR-001 and the Title would be something like_ 'Ten Trinity Square - Mechanical General Arrangement for the Ground Floor Ventilation.' Using description rather than Title can either give too little or too much description when the actual title would be sufficient enough.
Following a specific number that immediately identified the specific package, area, type, seq etc and Title system (which provide the key words) would allow for the project to gain better reporting and searching across all areas.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Please can this be actioned rather than just planned.
Is this something that is going to be actioned?
Can't believe this is still not actioned.
Hi Jeremy,
This was suggestion made years ago, could you tell me why it is taking so long to change the wording from Name to Document Number or Reference as this is very important now as go forward with the BIM numbering conventions.
It has now been nearly 6 years since you said it was going to be fixed soon??
George Mitchell
I think you can do that already using sub folders representing Package, area, type, seq etc..
but Packages may cross different drawing types you can do this with a excel drawing issue sheet.
It looks like this has been in development for nearly 4 years now.....
Please could you action it?
I started asking this over 10 years ago and have been asking every few months ever since............got told no-one else wanted it when i first started asking so lets hope we have the option soon.
2000 years later....maybe it will be implemented before I retire one day
I was told this would be relatively quick win, estimated within a few months?
You could have a look into IEC 82045-2 for a standard of naming metadata fields
Agree. Construction generally uses a unique drawing/document number and a title. 'Name' and 'Description' is confusing.
Thank you for you suggestion - this is currently be looked at in development and hope you have this capability out to you soon.
