Under BIM protocols outlined in PAS 1192 all documents have long names. It would save a lot of time to be able to use common search shortcuts available eg:
Find " UOG-ARP-00-SP-S-003 " from " *S-003 "
or return all specifications from " *SP "
It would also be helpful if search could pick up items in sub-folders. For example some content may not have been migrated over from a Stage 4 container to Stage 5 yet, but it still represents the most current information available. I currently have to search Stage 5 and then if I can't find the item I'm looking for search the other folder.
In practise I get so fed up with the search functionality that I just call other members of the project team and they send through the latest version of what I need as an email attachment.

Can you search the entire project? It seems that you can only search within each folder but sometimes one is unsure which sub folder a document is located. If we could do a general search of all folders that would be useful.
Whilst % is useful as a wild card, there is a significant caveat .. the items searched on must be in the correct order. e.g. in the example above: UOG-ARP-00-SP-S-003 if you enter %AR%SP% it will find the item. Enter %SP%AR% and it will not. If the user isn't aware of this, they may not find much of what they are looking for.
Hi, thank you for your comments, looks like a simple case of using the wrong operator!
Hi Natalie,
Further to Craig's good advice above, you can also search sub-folders by right clicking directly on the location in the Navigation Tree > Search. This operation will automatically select 'sub containers' in the search criteria so you will be searching your current folder, and all child folders underneath. Couple this will the %wildcard search and you have a powerful solution for narrowing things down.
Kind regards,
Andrew
Did you know that the percent sign is the wildcard for searches in VfP, so "%S-003" should work. I often do "%S-003%" just to be sure. I don't remember where I found this although it is the same as oracle systems.
