Turning email notifications ON for parent container should also turn ON notifications for all the sub-containers within that container. This would really save time to individually go on all sub-containers and do the same thing over and over.

We won't implement this suggestion as for setting email receipts we expect this to be a conscious action against a specific location. If a near project-wide notification method is required then we would advise the use of Matrix Transmittals or Workflows as a better holistic solution.
