Administrator to view a permissions as a user

It would be useful to be able to view a user's 'tree view' based on their current permissions in order to check that permissions set-up is correct.

Daniel, thank you for the reply. However, this is a rather long-winded way of doing this. What we're asking for is the same ability the helpdesk has, to mirror a user's permissions.

One way to achieve this would be to go to the user directory and locate the specific user, right click on the mouse icon to the left of their name and then select 'Troubleshoot Permissions'.

This will show you what that specific user can see and also which permissions they have in those locations.

You can also run a permissions troubleshooter on a security group using the same procedure from within the Admin area > Security Groups.

    We really need this feature...

This is quite an important function to have, permissions are currently a minefield and it would be fantastic to be able to check permissions easily. Rather than waiting until something goes wrong because someone has access to something they shouldn't.

totally agree - dare i add a bit to this?

Can we have a way of ( admins) seeing unregistered files?

VP Support can - but as Power Admins we should be able to see them as well. This will save support calls and allow us to troubleshoot file view issues. Alternatively what about a way of showing a count of unregistered files in any given container (either via a report or something on the screen. New consultant users seem to get this part of upload process wrong a lot.

Me too. I have a test user profile :-)

From experience with other systems we use, the ability for a sysadmin to "Impersonate" another user to assist with security troubleshooting is invaluable and would be very welcomed.

Completly agree with this. The permissions settings are confusing enough as it is, allowing for human error... This setting to see what the user see's would be very helpful!

Instead of sending invitations as suggested by James Earle, can the Power Admin have a location at the enterprise level where they can create multiple profiles to match the various permission groups? That would be beneficial for permission testing and save the Power Admin time.

    Hi Guys

You can do this as a user, All you need do is to create a new profile(s)

    The process is thus:

    1. Invite yourself using your existing email to the security group in question.

    2. Select "Change enterprise"

    3. Select Manage profiles or pending invitations

    4. Scroll to the bottom and you will find a profile that you need to accept; click on accept and select the option, create new profile

    5. Create new profile and name it as per the function its for e.g., Client Function test profile etc.

    6. When completed, you will close the window and you will find you have 2 profiles, your existing one and the new one.

Now with this function you can hop between profiles to review and test your functionality for security groups you have set up.

if you have any questions, please contact me. james.earle@viewpoint.com

    Thanks

This would be so handy, Claire's work around does the job but it's very time consuming. It really would be so much easier to click a button. I think a couple of people brought this up at the conference last week too.

I've found setting up a test user account for yourself using an alternative email (such as your personal email) and putting it in the security group you wish to check the views of is a helpful way to get around this. You can change its security group to check multiple security group views.

This would be really useful as we often find that user's permissions have been incorrectly set for their function within a project. It would aid security of information too in a really simple way.
